*Adult language and situations.

My rating: 3 stars

Road-Tripped follows Callie Murphy and Walker Rhodes as they embark a journey to rediscover an upcoming client’s lost passion. Two unlikely people come together to help their respective friends and do their jobs

I loved Callie, we were introduced to her as she was plotting to rig  a bomb at her workplace – she didn’t really do it, she just added it to her ‘list’. Unfortunately for Callie she is stuck with a job where her boss (and friend), Skip, believes in partying more than working. She seems to have an extra dislike to her co-worker, Walker, and has declared him as a manwhore. What she doesn’t know is Walker isn’t all he shows to be – he hates his job and the fawning he receieves. He is close to quitting, however, he recieves an offer to go on a paid road-trip – being the perfect opportunity he takes up the offer.

Callie doesn’t seem to have much luck on her side, with the previous writer sick due to her pregnancy, Callie is forced to take her place. Walker and Callie don’t exactly start off on the right foot, however, as their journey develops so does their relationship.

Callie is a hilarious herione and Walker is a charming hero. I quite enjoyed their interactions, however, sometimes I found them a tad too immature and wished they had just cleared up their misunderstandings. I also was not too fond of how Callie seemed to hold on to her perceived notion about Walker being a manwhore for so long. Other than that, I found it to be really realisitic and relatable – I felt like I was on the road trip with them. I also loved that Nicole put a playlist with each chapter, it really brought the mood.

Kisses in the Sand #2
Publication Date: August 8, 2016
Genres: Adult, Entangled Lovestruck, Contemporary Romance

The Best Friend Bargain Cover

Olivia Lincoln has a plan guaranteed to get her life back on track. A plan that involves her best friend, Danny. And he’s on board, too…until she blurts out that they’re engaged and expecting a baby, and the news spreads like wildfire.

The problem? Danny doesn’t do marriage. Or family. And everyone knows it, including Olivia.

As irritated as he might be, protecting Olivia is what Danny does. But put best friends under one roof, add house rules begging to be broken, accidental nakedness, and pancakes in bed, and what started as a marriage between friends threatens to turn into the real deal…which would ruin everything.

The tail end of daylight cast a glow around her in one-of-a-kind beauty and he found himself tucking her hair behind her ear as she looked up at him with similar appreciation.

When her gaze moved to his mouth, he was a goner.

He ignored the voice inside his head reminding him she was his best friend and once they crossed this line they could never go back, and gave her two seconds to say something to change his mind.

One, two…

She took a step back.

One kiss. One kiss to get it out of his head and put it to rest. She might have placed another foot between them, but Danny saw the indecision in her eyes. He inched closer anyway, unwilling to let her go without one more try. It was a jerk move, but if he didn’t get to taste her he’d go insane wondering.

He cradled her neck in his hands.

“Danny.” He liked how breathless his name sounded on her lips.

“We have to. I’m going out of my mind, Liv.”

She half gasped, half sighed, a pleasure-and-pain kind of sound he wanted to turn into one of satisfaction. They had to get this crazy new attraction out of the way so they could go back to being just Liv and Danny. “Make it terrible,” she whispered.

He smiled. “I’ll do my best.”

“To make it awful,” she reiterated.

“Prepare yourself for the worst kiss ever.”

Her small smile made itself at home inside his chest. He lowered his mouth to hers. No tongue, he told himself. Keep it innocent. Safe.

What’s a funny thing that happened on your to getting published?

This is the story of a funny thing that happened on the day my debut novel LOVE AND OTHER UNKNOWN VARIABLES came out. I’m wasn’t sure what it would feel like to be a published author, but I can assure you, I didn’t expect to have my launch day turn out quite the way it did.

I woke that gray, Tuesday morning in October feeling giddy about my book baby being unleashed on the unsuspecting world. I went downstairs to make breakfast for the kiddos, opened the pantry door, and discovered that everything in the pantry was covered in mouse poop. Yep. It was my big day, and by 6:30 am, I was facing a mountain of poop. Not the impressive start I was hoping for. I couldn’t help but wonder what other author’s began their important book release days cleaning poop and disinfecting their pantries. I’m betting it’s a pretty small percentage.

Once the pantry was cleaned and the kids were off at school, I met some girlfriends to go hunt down LAOUV out in the wild. But the first bookstore we arrived at told me they hadn’t had time to unpack the boxes yet. And the second one reported the same. My friend Tabbatha took charge and called around until she finally found a bookstore about forty minutes away that had one copy.

By now that gray sky had opened up into a full on downpour. My friend Gwen drove through the apocalyptic rain to the bookstore. We ran to the teen section and scoured the shelves for my book baby, but it was no where to be found. By now, I was completely defeated. I resigned myself to seeing it “someday, maybe before I die,” because my caffeine was starting wear off and I’m prone to fits of hyperbole even on the best of days.

But Tabbatha was not to be shaken. She set off in search of a manager, while Gwen and I wandered the aisles adding books to our Goodreads TBRs. Tabbatha came back, towing with her a sheepish looking manager who was holding…gasp! My book!

Turns out this last copy was actually on hold for another customer. I told him that was perfect, and I wasn’t here to stop anyone from buying my book. I just really wanted to take a photo with the book on the shelf in the teen section. I reached for my book to place it on the shelf, the book that has my name on the cover and a picture of me on the back flap. The book I’d spent the past six years of my life toiling over. My book.

The manager quickly pulled it out of my reach, explaining he couldn’t let me have it because, like he’d explained, it was on hold. Yes, but, I stammered, trying to explain that I didn’t want to buy it because I had a box of books at my house just like it. All I wanted was to take a picture with the book in the bookstore.

He shook his head. I was not to be allowed to touch my own book, because, like he’d explained, this one last copy in all of Indianapolis was on hold for someone else whose name was not on the front cover.

Eventually, diplomatic Tabbatha struck a deal with the manager. He set the book on the shelf in the empty spot it had been residing in before its hold status had made it untouchable. But he still didn’t exactly trust me, and I can’t say I blame him, because at this point in time, I’m pretty sure I had a maniacal gleam in my eyes. He stayed very close to the book, just in case I were to take it and try to pay him for it.

Gwen snapped the picture of me with my book baby. The manager took the book back and disappeared. I went back to my mouse-infested house, where I had to clean up a second round of poop because the mouse got hungry while I was adventuring.

My favorite part of the story though, is that just as I arrived home, I got a text from a friend who said she was so excited because she’d put my book on hold (yes, the same book) at the bookstore near her work (yes, the same bookstore) and had just stopped in to pick it up. She asked if she could come by my house to have me sign it (yes, my book baby).

So in the end, I did get to hold that book. I even signed it. And I may have (definitely) hugged it.

We’ll see what happens on the day LIFE AFTER JULIET comes out. I’m thinking that I’ll just stay at home with my mice and wait for someone to bring me a copy rather than trying to hunt one down.

The Rule Book follows Lainey as she starts her new job as a second assistant. She finds herself stuck with some outrageous rules made by her boss, Brogan Starr, and she cannot seem to not embarrass herself around him. Thrust in his world she learns more about the man behind the rules, and forgets her own rule about not falling in love with him.

“He didn’t complete me, because hell, I was complete to begin with, but he was the perfect complement, one that I’d be hard pressed to find in someone else.”

Lainey was a really fun heroine; I loved her awkwardness and ramblings. However, her internal ramblings got really long that the focus on the scene dissipated. Brogan seemed like a nice, smexy boss, however, his character felt uni-dimensional. And, the romance fell flat as well; I liked it was a slow burn, however, I didn’t really feel the chemistry – with Lainey’s rambling and lack of knowing Brogan’s thoughts it just didn’t work for me.

I think I would have enjoyed it more had it also included Brogan’s perspective. Other than that, it was a fun read and Lainey was a great heroine.
